Walking with Thoreau

I am walking with Thoreau for the next month or two and I am not ashamed to say the old boyvisits me in my office or rides with me in my car or on a plane and we “wish to suggest that a man may be very industrious, and yet not spend his time well…You must get your living by loving.”

And we “think that there is nothing, not even crime, more opposed to poetry, to philosophy, ay, to life itself, than this incessant business.”

“The chief want in every State..is, not slaves, nor operatives, but men – those rare fruits called heroes, saints, poets, philosophers and redeemers.”
